Michael Kewley talks about understanding non-attachment as being the key.
Most relationships are filled with expectations and boundaries that can manifest into
elements of control and possessiveness. But imagine being with your partner with no blame , no criticism and no expectations ? Could we try to love just because we can, not for something in return.
To love because we can, not for something in return. If we have no attachment it means we can enjoy the pleasant things when they arise. If there is no grasping or making demands that things stay the same forever, we allow patience with both pleasant and unpleasant , until they change.
In this way judgements, opinions and criticism fall away to allow everyone and everything space they need to be at peace in the world. That we give our significant other the space to truly be themselves.
Non - attachment is not cold or impersonal but it can be loving , spacious and respectful. If we don't know how to be happy ourselves, then how can we insist others follow our way , our advice ?
Michael Kewley suggests to be in a non-attached relationship is the highest of loving kindness, supporting liberty and freedom to another being so they can be at peace in their life.
Kewley says this becomes our gift to the world.
