Extract from Dr Eng-Kong TAN
We are living history, the pandemic will be cited and remembered in centuries to come. How can we have compassion for ourselves and others during this time that can be a stressful and uncertain time?
I like to deepen my practice of meditation with qualified teachers.
A qualified meditator , Dr Eng-Kong TAN ( psychiatrist and analytical psychotherapist ) offers insight into wisdom based therapy and mindfulness. Consider the following webinar from Dr Eng-Kong TAN that I recently attended.
He talks about the "Components of Wisdom in Psychology “
That facing a problem with compassion and empathy can reframe how we may view a problem. If we work toward feeling our emotions, acknowledge and name without judgement or negatively.
Just feel the emotion, notice and have compassion for self, whilst sitting with the emotion, can lead to more stable emotions, and help regulate our being with peace , contentment and positivity.
When we balance decisiveness with acceptance of uncertainty; together with self reflection. Self reflection and more self reflection, can lead to good decision making and a practical knowledge of life in general.
Everything most of the time is uncertain
I adore Dr Eng-Kong’s x4 G’s - simple yet powerful
Gladness - be glad - what can I be glad about for today?
Gratitude - be grateful - what can I be grateful about today?
What good can I see for today - what good did I do today?
It does not have to be big things small things like letting someone in at the traffic lights , pick up plastic litter ( x3 pieces for the sea )
What good can I see for tomorrow - what good can I look forward to doing tomorrow?
Again, small ways of good, good, goodness or big - it’s all goodness for self and other?
To manage emotional stability is to be with positivity and peace
But how do we do this ?
Self awareness and self regulation - therapy helps guide and support this process
Resilience - character strengths - therapy can help an individual or couple see their strengths
Find support - give support - being connected to others - wisely choose your tribe
Practice optimism - reframe and practice being positive together with being ok that things are not ok
Don’t take things personally - mistakes occur - # happens - easy to say ! Only remind self # happens and just accept it
Rewriting our story - stress is our teacher - no mud - no lotus flower - therapy can help support and guide a person in rewriting their story to flourish despite the suffering
